Awakening in the Depths
I choke at the sight of the bleeding sky. It is not my fault, I would say if there were a higher law for those like me. Feeling the saltwater flow into my mouth, I bob up and down with the waves, hardly staying afloat. The currents move unnaturally, tugging at my fins in a silent plea to follow them away from the vioent scene before me.
A scream from behind reminds me never to assume I am alone. Turning to see a girl climbing up the rocks where a sailor had just met his unfortunate demise, I notice the rocks' faint green glow.
Blood.
That is the solution.
The girl makes eye contact with me. She's dead before she can scream. My tail propels me forward as I dodge the ever-stronger waves. The water wipes the blood off my hands removing the testament to my sins. This is right, this feels right. This was the right number. The right combination for the lock I had been picking for decades.
Upon the rocks, I crawl.
Hear my voice sing with the swells. A powerful resonance brought forth on this day.
The sky turns a deeper shade of crimson, a warning that no one alive today would recognize.
A rumble shakes the earth to its core as rocks from nearby cliffs tumble down. An unholy growl can be heard from the depths as the ground dissolve beneath me, and I am plunged again into a cacophony of waves.
Dark blue and silence surround me.
I look below me to see one big glowing eye rising from the abyss.
I finally awoke him.
